Martha McClenahan was a classmate of Grant and graduated in 1909 from the old Washington High School . Martha was the daughter of Robert McClenahan, a partner of Armstrong McClenahan from whence the former Armstrong Department Store began. Martha's grandfather, David McClenahan was an early Cedar Rapids physician very popular with its residents. He was also a Civil War veteran.
